Local Labour in Construction

Welcome to the new Tower Hamlets Local Labour in Construction, LLiC website. We pride ourselves in working in partnership to deliver services to local people and construction employers working on the regeneration of East London.

The Local Labour in Construction initiative works for Tower Hamlets residents with one specific aim. That is to ensure that local communities are given opportunities to secure employment on one of the many construction sites and developments taking place within East London's regeneration.

Major projects include, Olympics 2012, Canary Wharf, London Hospital, DLR, Woods Wharf.

Young people are supported on their path from training to skilled status through the Pathway to Skilled Employment apprenticeship or PSE, which is a work-based training programme aimed at young people who want to develop their life prospects and career.

Based on personal aspirations and not just academic excellence, these apprenticeships provide the opportunity for skilled, enjoyable and well-paid work.

Where appropriate, courses are offered to local people to provide the opportunity to develop skills base and fulfil their potential with fewer barriers to employment.

We also have an IT based training centre called the Robin Hood IT Centre in partnership with CITB to provide Learndirect courses to those working or wishing to join the construction industry.
